Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, one of New Jersey’s leading luxury real estate services firms, donated much-needed items to the Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care System, Lyons Campus located at 151 Knollcroft Road in Lyons, New Jersey on Thursday, August 10th to benefit local homeless veterans.

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, there are nearly 50,000 homeless Veterans across the nation on any given night… In addition to that staggering statistic, inspiration sparked by a client who works with Veterans lead Patricia Melso, Sales Associate at the firm’s Saddle River regional office to head the efforts in the donation drive. “After speaking with my client, I was truly touched by their work and was inspired to take action to help the so many veterans in need.” Says Melso, ‘It’s an honor to give back to those who’ve dedicated themselves to our Country. Everyone at the Lyons campus was so appreciative and we hope to return again soon with even more donations!’

All items collected were donated to homeless Veterans residing in the GPD (Grant and Per Diem) Programs located throughout New Jersey. Grant and Per Diem is a 24-month maximum length stay program that provides supportive services and transitional housing to homeless Veterans. The programs are collaborative efforts between the VA and community providers.

The homeless Veterans living in these residences typically come from the streets, domiciliary, shelters, etc. and are working on treatment issues (for example, sobriety, mental health, budgeting, legal, vocational development, etc.) in order to prepare for the eventual transition into affordable permanent housing.

“It’s amazing what can happen when people help one another,” says Danny Kahn, Broker Associate and Manager of the Saddle River regional office. “Giving back to the community we all love so much is an honor and we will continue to do so.”
